“Chien au Fontaine” or “Dog at the Fountain” Is an elegant verdure tapestry in the style of those woven in the 18th century in Aubusson, one of the chief tapestry weaving towns in France at the time. In this period landscapes with trees, birds and rivers were popular and often included graceful architectural frames. Here we see a dog pausing at a classical fountain. In the distance is the architecture of a period castle sprawling over a range of hills.
