Based on an original Asmara painting inspired by an 17th century Persian silk brocade, Como combines thousands of subtle shades of fresh green and gold tonally, giving this ancient pattern a surprisingly contemporary feel. Similar patterns of mythical creatures enclosed in ovals are found in silk brocades from Ming Dynasty China to Renaissance Italy and Spain.
This hand made cut and loop pile rug was made by combining a loop weave invented by Asmara with the ancient French Savonnerie pile weave. Woven with a complex yarn made up several yarns of different shades, this rug has a unique texture and shading variations reminiscent of rare antique rugs.
