They have been weaving rugs in Romania since the Ottoman Empire, but only since the middle 20th century have they exported their production. The designs are usually based on old Persian patterns although recently they are weaving contemporary styles. They are equally if not more so famous for their kilim weaving especially Bessarabian kilims.
