Antique Caucasian Dagestan Rug Circa 1880. A mihrab design on an ivory field filled with wonderful ethnic designs and surrounded by the traditional Caucasian multiple borders. Dagestan is located inside Russia in the north of Caucasia, up until the 19th century it fell under the control of Persia, so the Persian influence can be seen in the weavings although they are of course tribal rugs and this is reflected within the designs.
